Impact in Motion: Jaisha’s January Highlights
At Club B Learning Labs, we kick-started the year with enriching programs designed to empower the youth at our White Sands and East John sites in Calvert County. January was all about growth, exploration, and preparing for the future. Our focus for the month revolved around Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and College & Career Readiness, equipping our youth with the tools they need for success.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
Throughout January, our youth engaged in SEL learning topics that encouraged them to recognize and celebrate their resilience. We explored various aspects of self-awareness and personal development, focusing on:
Purposeful Living: Understanding and setting meaningful goals.
Building Confidence: Recognizing personal strengths and fostering self-belief.
Seeking & Giving Support: The importance of a supportive network and community.
Flexibility: Adapting to change and overcoming obstacles with strength and grace.
College & Career Readiness
Preparing our youth for their future endeavors was a major highlight this month. We delved into two critical areas:
Skills for Success
Self-Motivation & Perseverance: Cultivating a drive to achieve goals despite challenges.
Critical Thinking: Encouraging analytical and logical decision-making.
Effective Communication: Developing strong speaking and listening skills.
Knowledge Integration: Combining information from various sources to solve complex problems.
Skills for College & Career
Study Skills: Learning effective study techniques.
Organization: Time management and organizational strategies.
Practice Writing: Improving writing skills crucial for applications and essays.
Developing Leadership Skills: Leading projects and working as a part of a team.
Taking AP or Dual Credit Courses: Encouraging advanced coursework for college preparation.
Engaging Activities
Our learning labs were filled with engaging and interactive activities to bring these concepts to life:
Human Bingo: A fun icebreaker that helped youth recognize and relate to each other's experiences.
Role-Play: Mock interviews and writing exercises to simulate real-life application processes.
Four Corners’ Reflections: An interactive activity that encouraged self-reflection and sharing insights with peers.
January at Club B Learning Labs was truly transformative, setting a strong foundation for our youth's personal and academic growth. We look forward to continuing this journey of empowerment and education in the coming months. Stay tuned for more exciting updates and activities!
